Master Mover Tug Used By Bisley To Move Heavy Components Down Assembly Line
Europe’s largest manufacturer of steel storage products invests MasterMover MasterTug
Europe’s largest manufacturer of steel storage products has added to their fleet of electric operated towing tugs from MasterMover.
Bisley, the renowned brand in office furniture has world class manufacturing facilities in Newport, Gwent and make over 20000 pieces of steel office furniture per week. To help the flow of products along the busy production line, they use the MT3 and MT5 to move heavy components from one stage of the assembly process to the next. With the ability to manoeuvre in tight spaces and the need for only one operator, the MasterTug has added simplicity and efficiency to the process. As the company has grown the need for further machines has led to an order for 5 more tugs through MasterMover dealer, Jeung Heinrich. The new units will be used in conjunction with the older tugs which are still performing day in day out.
One of the original considerations for Bisley was the Health and Safety implications of moving heavy items manually. With ever present risks to backs, necks and shoulders of handling heavy items, staff welfare at Bisley is top of the priority list and the use of the MasterMover tugs eliminates these potential issues. Of course, an added bonus for management is the lowered risk of compensation claims and staff absences from accidents. The company has also discovered that productivity gains mean that the units are self funding, whilst the ability to use more space for production, due to the compact size of the tugs, has increased throughput of product.
Wayne Jones of Bisley (Health & Safety Officer) commented; “We employ the most advanced manufacturing processes from in-house tool making and computer aided design through to precision folding, laser cutting and fully-automated powder paint plant machinery. We actively seek suppliers who can enhance our operation and MasterMover is one of them. Their service back-up is a major benefit to us. An engineer can be called out and on site the same day if we need him to be; this is crucial in maintaining our production schedules. Their products are also easy to operate and we have trained a number of staff on them so that we are never short of an operator”.
The MasterTug range consists of 12 models capable of pushing, pulling and steering wheeled and semi-wheeled loads from 50kg up to 30000kg. Used in a wide variety of market sectors, these compact, but powerful units are well proven in many of the UK’s highest profile manufacturing businesses.
