Laurens Patisseries Ltd, the largest fresh cream cake manufacturer in Europe encountered serious manual handling problems following the completion of the latest extension to the building and installation of two 60 metre ovens.

Large mixing bowls were moved by hand from the mixing station to the oven depositors . Although the bowls were on wheels, the combined weight of the bowl and contents was 600 Kg and they were very difficult to manoeuvre accurately by two people.

Health & Safety Manager Peter Smith decided to look for a solution to the problem and chose a stainless steel tug from MasterMover with a special attachment welded to the Tonelli mixing bowls. “This combination provides easy movement and accurate positioning of the bowl into the mixer by one person and removed the possible back and foot injuries likely from the manual handling operation” commented Peter Smith.


MasterMover provided initial training in the safe use of the tug for operators on all shifts and this has been continued by Laurens staff
